So smart AI only makes it earn more resources/xp etc., it doesn't get "smarter"?

Hey I have played Eador: MotBW and loved it. But this looks even cooler, can't wait to try it!

Should I modify any files before playing or is it fine to use the default 290a download? What do the "Smart AI" do exactly, should i disable it?
Also wondering if I should use "fixed_skills" or the normal Application launcher?
